We are often taught that having a baby is one of the most exciting times in a woman's life. While ignoring the fact that this life stage is riddled with stress and anxiety. In fact, Postpartum Depression is the most common complication of childbirth, but it's commonly overlooked.
Although many women experience the "baby blues", approximately 1 out of 7 women are affected by Postpartum Depression, a statistic that doesn't even account for the women who also experience postpartum onset of Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder, and other syndromes. The term that now encompasses all of these conditions is called Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. Simply put, "perinatal" means having to do with pregnancy.
The cause of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders is not yet fully understood, however we do know that certain risk factors are at play. For instance, the rapid shift in hormones during and after pregnancy, nutritional deficiencies, lack of sleep, birth trauma, financial strain, lack of support, tension in relationships, unstable living environment, unresolved grief, medical issues, etc., all can contribute to the development of the above conditions. The rate of mood disorders during the child bearing years is extremely high and it not only impacts women, but their loved ones well.
I founded Alliance Therapy Practice to ultimately help women create their village and reaching out for help is the first step in that process. With specialized training in Maternal Mental Health, through Postpartum Support International and Seleni Institute, I help women before, during and after pregnancy to recover from mood disorders and cope with the difficult transitions often associated with this major life stage. Our work will entail assessing risk factors, identifying symptoms and developing a plan for coping.

WEEKLY DROP-IN SUPPORT GROUP: This postpartum support group is designed as a casual touch base for new moms. It meets weekly and you can join at any time. Let us help you connect with other new moms, talk about your experience, and learn about helpful tools and resources.

"YEAR ONE" A 5 WEEK STRUCTURED THERAPY GROUP:
Our "Year One" postpartum support group is a 5 week series that delves into the relevant topics of early motherhood, while providing you with support from a mental health professional, and other mothers in the same life stage. You will gain access to robust discussions, coping strategies and a support system that can provide insight, comfort and camaraderie to help you feel grounded and empowered.
This is a structured group where participants start and end at the same time. Every week you will receive a follow up email recapping our sessions and providing tools, tips and actionable steps related to that week’s topic.
COST: $100($20/each session)
